Ooh! For how long I used Photoshop, you’d think I’d know these things.
(To be fair I’ve used OpenCanvas and SAI to paint almost exclusively for the past five years or so, BUT HEY)
Don’t feel bad…there’s so much to Photoshop I have my doubts that any given one of the Adobe programmers knows every last thing you can do with it! I’ve been using it since the late 90s (with a couple-of-years interlude with PaintShopPro and openCanvas) and I’m still discovering stuff. Like this. 8D
I’ve been using a similar technique discovered by accident: one of the default wet brushes (it’s tricky to find ‘cause it looks like a lot of the others), when used as the brush for Smudge, has a really strong breakup effect. The edges are hard to control but it’s the best thing I’ve found for skin texture without an overlay. It can look pretty rough if you use it for everything, though, and I’ve been kinda displeased with that, so this trick right here? This is fan-damn-tastic.
for my artsy fartsy frands
